J&S flipping out on me...too sensitive?

First, my J&S is connected to the OE knock sensor wire.
I've noticed the unit would back a couple degrees of timing when the VTEC hits. I have CTR cams and VTEC controller set @ 5000. When the cams x-over you can really hear it...like a snap.
The more recent problem happened after I installed a J&S FPR. I had it installed because it was obvious on the plugs that I was running lean (but, oddly, the A/F guage was reading rich and I am running a holley pump with 310cc injectors). We turned the FP up a bit and now the J&S is pulling a full 20? around 6.5k. Now, is the J&S set too sensitive or has my pump craped out on me or am I running too rich? TIA.

A J&S FPR?? Do you mean a Jackson Racing FPR?

Mine was acting up, it would retard randomly, so i swapped it with someone elses and it ended up showing that my unit had problems. I sent it back but have not heard from them about what is the matter. I would suggest trying to find someone in the area to test another unit, or install the knock sensor that came with the unit, that might help. Sensitivity shouldnt really go below 10 oclock on the knob, but turn it down and see what happens. Mine would retard EVEN with it turned all the way down. When it is turned down listen for knock, that will tell you if the unit is actually hearing correct noises or is just doing strange stuff. Good luck.
